See the new fact sheet on children's health and well-being.

At the start of school, 1 in 7 schoolchildren in Denmark are overweight – rising to nearly 1 in 5 children in upper primary school, according to a new fact sheet.

'Børnevægt i Balance' has produced a new fact sheet that highlights topics related to children's health and well-being in Denmark.

The fact sheet is based on existing reports from various stakeholders and is updated annually.

Common knowledge base

The fact sheet includes figures and statistics on obesity, underweight, and distress in children, as well as topics such as loneliness, stress, bullying, body image, eating habits, physical activity, sleep, online life, and screen use.

The initiative aims to ensure a common knowledge base on the status of children's weight, health, and well-being, as stated by 'Børnevægt i Balance'.

Overweight in School

Overweight and severe overweight affect children's well-being, school performance, school choices, and have a negative impact on children's grades in 9th grade, according to the fact sheet.

Additionally, children and adolescents with obesity are at increased risk of carrying the excess weight into adulthood.

Children's weight in Balance (Børnevægt i Balance) is an alliance between partners who work to ensure that children can grow up with a healthy weight and a healthy body and maintain it throughout life.
