New model for a national health profile for pregnant women
New project to prepare a national database on pregnant women's health. The goal of the pilot study is to eventually establish a national health profile for pregnant women.
The profile should cover selected indicators of maternal health behaviour both before and during pregnancy. It can help provide unique insights into lifestyle before and during pregnancy in relation to the health and well-being of mother and child.
Background for the project
Currently, there is no national overview of the health and well-being of pregnant women in Denmark, or of their behaviour immediately before they become pregnant. Thus, there is a lack of current knowledge about the health status of pregnant women at a national level.
Collecting and reporting data from pregnancy and labour can be used to describe, monitor and investigate the factors that impact the health and illness of both the pregnant woman and the baby. Among other things, this data can be used to identify areas where preventive efforts are lacking in prenatal care and to describe and investigate the importance of factors such as social inequality and differences between regions, healthcare clusters and hospitals.
It will also be possible to use data to examine the effects of interventions for pregnant women over time so that decision-makers can prioritise between interventions on an informed basis.
