What does partial breastfeeding mean for a child’s development and well-being?

A new project aims to contribute knowledge about early preventive interventions and the mechanisms that support healthy weight development and well-being in children.

Background of the project

The project examines which factors influence partial breastfeeding and how the relationship looks between a child’s breastfeeding status (full, partial, or none) and the child’s development, including both weight and well-being. At the same time, it considers which conditions can help maintain partial breastfeeding rather than complete cessation, such as socioeconomic factors and the father’s or partner’s involvement. Finally, the effect of the intervention “AMNING – en god start sammen (BREASTFEEDING – a good start together”) is evaluated, with particular focus on the role of socioeconomic status, the partner’s role, and the new parental leave regulations.

The project’s results will provide a basis for professional development among health professionals and form the foundation for the development of new policies.
